HOUSE OF BOUVAY FOUNDATION

Hello
Starting this Foundation was so important to me as I am a former foster youth, and I know first hand the obstacles placed in the path of our futures. I'm here to help navigate around those obstacles and show these youth there is a way over all the hurdles in life. All they have to do is grab hold of the baton and cross that finish line. Against all odds we can and will make it!

My Story
Born and raised on the westside of Los Angeles. Myesia entered the foster system at the age of 4 after her father committed suicide and her mother suffered from mental illness which the courts deemed her unfit and unable to care for Myesia and her three siblings.
Fortunately her paternal grandmother stepped in and obtained custody of her, her sister and her oldest brother while her youngest brother was fostered by a maternal aunt since he had a different father.
Although the children were able to be fostered by family members they still were subject to mental, physical and sexual abuse, social anxiety and lack of support and resources needed to lead a successful life.
Myesia was able to navigate her way through school graduating from Crenshaw Gifted Magnet High School and then attending Cal State Dominguez Hills. Myesia did not complete her four year degree due to the death of her grandmother. 20 years old emancipated from the system with no support and no foundation or direction on what to do next. This led to many odd jobs and couch surfing with friends which subjected her to being taken advantage of.
Not long after she entered adulthood her biological mother emerged and was in need of assistance (as she was still mentally ill). Myesia along with her older sister began taking care of their mother even though they had no relationship or too much knowledge on her mental condition.
Myesia, still not knowing exactly where life was taking her, was contacted by her youngest brother who had just graduated and emancipated from the system and was in need of a place to stay and guidance as he entered adulthood. Although Myesia wasn’t totally equipped to give any additional assistance as she was struggling to stay above water, she still opened her doors and provided shelter to her brother and tried her best to guide him to survival.
Myesia tried her best to support and provide opportunities for her brother but she was unsuccessful and he landed in jail/prison on and off for a duration of ten years. Once released Myesia’s brother once again reached out and was in need. Myesia, now a mother to a beautiful daughter, had even less resources to provide then before, but she still took on her brother and helped him out with shelter, food and clothing. Not knowing her brother was now addicted to drugs he unfortunately died an untimely death at the tender age of 28 years old on April 28, 2022.
At this point not only has Myesia lost a sibling but her mother was now incarcerated and also suffering from drug addiction and mental illness.
